How does RFT Express Parcels Differ from other companies?

RFT Express have revolutionized the Next Day parcel delivery, by simplifying it. We simply collect all your parcels for one destination, load them on to one van, and then deliver on the same van with the same driver. RFT Express Parcels charge a flat mileage fee, and occasionally a surcharge for some deliveries.[We regularly deliver 100 + parcels for a client to the 13th floor of a building. The restrictions imposed on us at this building is a maximum of 10 boxes in a lift at any time.]

This system works to your benefit if you are sending multiple parcels to one address. Depending on the mileage, you can save with a delivery of 10 parcels. And your load is insured for up to £20,000 at no extra cost

What System do Other Parcel Carriers Use?

One of your carriers will call every day at a pre-arranged time to collect your parcels.[Most companies use several carriers to take advantage of different rates for different size parcels, or for later collection times.] These are loaded on a van with every other companies parcels who are on the same van run, then taken to a local depot. They are then unloaded, scanned, sorted and put in cages for different area deliveries, and for different carriers.[Larger companies use computerised conveyor systems]

At this point one of four things happen to your parcels.

1. All your parcels are collected by a 44 tonne artic which will collect from several depots and deliver to a central hub. Most of these are around the Birmingham area.
2. All your parcels are sent to a regional warehouse, reloaded onto a larger vehicle for onward transmition to a central hub.
3. Your parcels are split up, and sent by either of the above, with some sent by a 'competitors' distribution network [Just as you use different carriers, so the carriers will use the cheapest method of delivering your parcels.]
4. If your carrier is running at over capacity, they will call us to deliver the excess to the central hub.[Most carriers are allocated a certain amount of space on the night trunk to the central hub.]

Once at the hub your parcels are unloaded, resorted, and loaded on to the artic going to the nearest warehouse or depot, then the reverse system starts. When you consider that each central hub sorts several 100,000 parcels in a few hours, you can understand the pressures involved, add to this the need to sort and store in different parts of the hubs, parcels for 2 day, 3 day and 5 day delivery, you can understand how sometimes your parcels go astray or are damaged. The standard insurance on your parcels is usually £1.50 per kilo, with a limit of the amount you have been charged for that delivery. Most carriers offer an enhanced insurance at a cost.

You can easily check what you are paying for similar deliveries. Bear in mind, allthough these are actual deliveries, RFT Express charge by the mile, not by the number of parcels.
